Dietary rules: Peter’s fast in June 2026
June, according to the old style, traditionally opens the summer fast. Until June 7 (inclusive), there is a period when eating any food is permitted (the first week is a solid week, when fasting is canceled even on the traditionally fast days of Wednesday and Friday).
Starting on June 8 , believers enter the Peter (Apostolic) Fast. This fast is considered not too strict. Traditionally:
- Monday, Wednesday, Friday: hot food without oil or strict fasting.
- Tuesday, Thursday: food with vegetable oil is allowed.
- Saturday, Sunday: Fish, seafood and wine are allowed. (Note: rules may be relaxed on the days of remembrance of great saints).
