Ukrainian air defense: when will we have our own anti-ballistic missiles – Zelensky revealed a plan to produce interceptor missiles in Europe

Amid the global shortage of air defense systems, Ukraine is taking the initiative. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an important statement about deploying Ukrainian anti-ballistic missile production directly on the European continent. What does this mean for the protection of our cities and why is the US “slowing down” the process for now? Read more about this in our material.

Ensuring air and missile defense remains the number one priority for Ukraine and the world, as the enemy intensifies strikes and increases the number of ballistic missiles in circumvention of sanctions. In his new address, Volodymyr Zelensky shared insights into resolving this issue through diplomatic negotiations and revealed a new strategy for overcoming the anti-ballistic missile famine in Ukraine and the world.

The world is facing an unprecedented shortage of means to intercept ballistic missiles, which enter their target at an angle of almost 90 degrees to the ground and reach their maximum speed at the moment of impact. As the head of state explains, “anti-ballistic missiles are currently a global shortage due to the war with Iran . ”

The continued lack of progress from the US on expanding production capacity has forced Kyiv to seek alternative and more independent ways to solve the problem.

Plan “B”: Ukrainian weapons made in Europe

The main statement of the evening of May 25, 2026 was the president’s confirmation of the news that Ukraine, together with its European allies, is preparing a base for the joint production of air defense, the so-called anti-ballistics, that is, weapons for intercepting it.

“We are trying to accelerate this work in Europe to produce our own anti-ballistic missiles on the continent in sufficient quantities,” Zelenskyy said.

The President particularly noted the support of French leader Emmanuel Macron and other partners who are ready to accelerate this ambitious military-industrial project.

Thus, according to the analysis of leading specialists in military production, the creation of production lines in Europe will allow:

  • Reduce logistical risks and protect factories from Russian attacks;
  • Scale up production of interceptor missiles to “sufficient volume”;
  • Reduce dependence on American political cycles and internal US delays.

Innovations on the front: what stabilized the situation?

While the issue of missile defense of cities is being resolved at the diplomatic level, the front line is being held thanks to technological superiority. The President emphasized that the front was stabilized not only thanks to the courage of the soldiers, but also thanks to Ukrainian drones, long-range sanctions, and “Middle-strike” technological solutions .

The results are so tangible that even the Russian so-called “military cadres,” whose whining has become the best indicator of Ukrainian success, acknowledge it.

America remains the key player that Russia fears

Despite relying on its own production in Europe, Ukraine continues to engage with Washington. On Memorial Day (USA), Zelensky reminded that without American leadership, the protection of European freedom will be at risk. Kyiv has already offered Washington to share its security and technological experience, tested in real combat conditions, for further cooperation.

Conclusion for Ukrainians: The response to Russia’s ballistic terror is moving to a new level. Ukraine is no longer just a “requester” of weapons and is turning into a manufacturer of modern interception systems, backed by the industrial capabilities of key EU countries.
