How much will travel in Kyiv cost for pensioners, schoolchildren, students and tourists from July 15, 2026

Today it became known that the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) announced a large-scale update of the tariff policy in the capital’s municipal public transport, including the metro, buses, trolleybuses and trams. According to the city hall, the cost of travel on the metro, trams, trolleybuses and buses has not been reviewed since 2018, so the new price jump will be very noticeable (from 8 hryvnias to 30 hryvnias for a single trip for one adult – an increase of 275%).

The biggest shock for passengers may be the cost of an unlimited monthly pass, which will be a record 4,875 UAH . Which is equal to the cost of renting a one-room apartment in remote areas of Kyiv in the old housing stock.

Interestingly, according to the Kyiv City State Administration, the market price of a metro ticket in 2026 should be 64.60 hryvnias for a single ticket, and for ground transport (buses, trolleybuses, and trams) – 44.14 hryvnias for 1 ticket.

According to the plan of the capital’s authorities, new tariffs are planned to be introduced from July 15, 2026, after the completion of all regulatory procedures.

Important for Kyiv residents: The document is currently at the stage of public discussion. Every city resident can officially submit their suggestions and comments until June 1, 2026 through a special platform forum.kyivcity.gov.ua .

Will pensioners pay for travel from July 15?

public transport travel from July 15, 2026 for pensioners

Despite the radical increase in fares for most passengers from July 15, 2026, pensioners will continue to use Kyiv’s public transport for free . The capital’s authorities fully preserve this social benefit. For unhindered and free travel on both ground transport and the metro, a pensioner must have with them:

  • A completed “Kyiv Resident Card” (for residents of the capital with a residence permit or official employment in the city).
  • Paper or digital pension certificate together with an activated digital “Privilege Card” in the “Kyiv Digital” application (the service allows free validation of travel even for pensioners from other cities of Ukraine).

Please note: the free travel benefit traditionally applies only to public transport (metro, buses, trolleybuses, trams, funicular) and does not apply to private scheduled vehicles and taxis.

Tourist and hourly tickets: offers for city guests

For tourists, business travelers, or those who have come to the capital for the weekend, starting July 15, 2026, a one-time payment of 30 UAH may be unprofitable (compared to 8 UAH as before). Therefore, the city proposes to introduce short-term unlimited tickets for a fixed time:

  • 24-hour pass — 375 UAH.
  • Travel pass for 48 hours — 563 UAH.
  • Travel pass for 72 hours — 750 UAH.

It is also planned to launch a special transfer ticket for UAH 60. It will be valid for 90 minutes and will allow passengers to make an unlimited number of transfers between the metro and ground public transport without additional payment.

What will happen to benefits for students and schoolchildren?

For students and pupils, travel benefits from July 15, 2026 have been maintained at the previous level:

  1. Students of higher education institutions and colleges will continue to pay only 50% of the cost of monthly travel tickets.
  2. Schoolchildren will use city public transport absolutely free of charge during the school year . In the summer period, a 75% discount will apply to schoolchildren .
