How to survive the July heat safely: practical recommendations

The abnormal temperatures expected in July (especially during periods when the thermometer will exceed +32 °C or even more with new temperature records being set ) create a serious burden on the cardiovascular system, especially in weather-dependent people. To maintain your performance and well-being, follow the basic rules that we have described based on the recommendations of doctors below:
- Control your water balance: Drink at least 2–2.5 liters of clean water per day for an adult. Avoid sugary carbonated drinks, energy drinks, and alcohol — they only increase dehydration and can irritate your stomach. Water with lemon or cool green tea are the best thirst quenchers if you don’t want to drink just plain tap water.
- Avoid open sun during peak hours 12-16:00: The highest level of ultraviolet radiation in Lutsk is recorded from 11:00 to 16:00. At this time, try to stay indoors or in the shade of trees.
- Choose the right wardrobe from natural materials: Wear loose-fitting clothes in light colors made only from natural fabrics (linen, cotton). A must-have accessory should be a hat (cap, panama, hat) and sunglasses.
- Cool the room wisely: If you use air conditioning, set the temperature no lower than +22…+24 °C . The difference between the temperature outside and indoors should not exceed 7–10 degrees, otherwise the risk of catching a cold increases dramatically.
- Change your diet if you haven’t already: Usually in the summer we want to eat less and feel full faster. Avoid heavy, fatty and fried foods. Prefer fresh vegetables, fruits, light salads and cold soups (for example, okroshka or gazpacho).
- Use sunscreen: Even if you’re just going to work, apply an SPF 30 or higher to exposed skin 20 minutes before going outside. If you’re going to be in the sun, this is a must for your skin and its protection.
July in Lutsk is a great opportunity to relax on the Shatsk Lakes or take walks in the park, the main thing is to take into account the vagaries of the weather and take care of your comfort.
