To clearly understand the amounts of payments for injuries in 2026, let’s immediately distinguish between light, medium, and severe injuries. Since the amount of the payment and the total amount of money paid to the serviceman each month depend on this.
This article will discuss the case of receiving a serious injury in 2026, and where the total amount of payments to a serviceman after a complex injury may exceed 1.5 million hryvnias.
Let’s note right away that the payment amount is formed from several sources at once:
- monthly cash allowance,
- saved “combat” 100,000 UAH for the treatment period,
- material assistance according to the report on material assistance to solve household issues,
- financial assistance for recovery and treatment,
- One-time cash assistance (OCA) in case of establishing a disability group (fixed-term or unlimited – lifelong).
In this article, we will analyze in detail each source of income, how to apply and receive it, the updated accrual mechanism, the current payment amounts, and pitfalls when passing the VLK and EC (formerly MSEK).
What are the payments to the injured person during treatment?
Many military personnel and their families mistakenly believe that the state pays money only once after injury, discharge, or disability. In fact, financial support should begin from the first day of hospitalization.
1. Monthly cash allowance (Salary)
A serviceman who is inpatient or on leave for treatment after a serious injury is entitled to 100% of his basic salary (salary by rank, position, seniority allowances). That is, if your basic salary was 25,000 UAH, you must keep it and you will continue to receive it every month.
2. “Combat” 100,000 UAH in the hospital
According to the legislation , soldiers who were injured, contused or mutilated during direct participation in hostilities (defense of the Motherland) receive an additional compensation of UAH 100,000 for each month of inpatient treatment . This amount is also paid during leave for treatment after a serious injury (usually up to 4 months), if there is a corresponding conclusion of the Military Medical Council on the need for such leave.
3. Annual payments: “health” and material (social and household) assistance
If in the year of injury, the serviceman has not yet used his right to annual material assistance and health benefits, he can submit a report for their payment. Report templates are available for download below:
Report on the “health resort”
Report on “material assistance”
Rehabilitation assistance and material assistance for solving social and household issues are usually equal to the amount of monthly cash benefits (excluding bonuses and combat pay).
One-time cash benefit (OGD) upon establishment of disability in 2026
If the injury resulted in disability, i.e. loss of working capacity or partial loss of working capacity, the serviceman is assigned a One-time cash benefit . Its amount is directly tied to the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons , established on January 1 of the year when the Expert Team for the Assessment of the Person’s Daily Functioning (until January 1, 2025, the Medical and Social Expert Commission) established the disability.
In 2026, this basic subsistence minimum is UAH 3,328 .
So, when calculating the amount of the OGD disability payment due to an injury related to the defense of the Motherland (performance of a combat mission), we rely on the disability group that was established:
- Group I disability (400 subsistence minimums): UAH 1,331,200.
- Group II disability (300 subsistence minimums): UAH 998,400.
- Group III disability (250 subsistence minimums): 832,000 UAH.
IMPORTANT: If the disability is related to military service (but not a combat injury), the amounts are much smaller: Group I – 120 Subsistence Min., Group II – 90 PM, Group III – 70 PM.
What does the Table of Real Amounts look like – Example of how much a wounded person can receive in total
To understand the real financial picture, let’s give an example.
Conditions: a private soldier (basic salary — UAH 25,000) received a serious combat wound in connection with the defense of the Motherland, spent 3 months in the hospital and 1 month on leave for treatment. After that, the Expert Team for Assessment of Work Ability (formerly MSEK) established him with Group II disability in 2026.
| Payment stage | Payment type | Formula / Conditions | Real amount (example) |
| Treatment period (4 months) | Cash benefits (basic salary) | 25,000 UAH × 4 months | 100,000 UAH |
| Treatment period (4 months) | “Combat” during treatment | 100,000 UAH × 4 months | 400,000 UAH |
| One-time (according to the report) | Rehabilitation assistance | Amount of 1 month’s salary | 25,000 UAH |
| One-time (according to the report) | Social and household assistance | Amount of 1 month’s salary | 25,000 UAH |
| After the EC’s conclusion on the assessment of disability | One-time cash assistance (OUA) | 300 × 3328 UAH (for group II) | 998,400 UAH |
| TOTAL AMOUNT OF PAYMENTS: | For the entire period of injury and release | 1,548,400 UAH |
Note: If a serviceman is declared unfit and removed from the register, additional compensation for unused vacation and severance pay upon dismissal are accrued.
Procedures and new changes to speed up receipt
Obtaining the status of a disabled veteran, a war invalid, and injury benefits has always been accompanied by bureaucracy, but in 2026 the procedure was modernized and optimized with changes to speed up the process:
- Certificate of Injury Circumstances (Appendix 5): This is the main document. Without it, the injury may be treated as “related to service” and not “defense of the Motherland,” which automatically reduces all payments several times. Make sure that the commander draws it up correctly immediately after your evacuation from the battlefield.
- Simplification of applying for financial assistance and payments: Documents for one-time financial assistance can now be submitted both through the military unit (if you continue your service) and through the Army+ application by completing the appropriate reports. The terms of consideration by the Ministry of Defense are strictly regulated, and the decision is made by an interdepartmental commission.
- Special payment for youth (18–24 years old): Under the new rules, servicemen in this age category who have received a combat injury (regardless of disability) are entitled to a guaranteed additional payment of UAH 1,000,000 (provided that the documents are properly processed through the unit) and even if they have not served their annual contract and are subject to dismissal due to health reasons.
Expert advice: The most common reason for delays or loss of combat 100 thousand during treatment is the withdrawal of non-staff, the lack of submitted documentation on treatment, the lack of electronic exchange of documents between the hospital and the unit. Therefore, in practice, it is more reliable and safer to make a photocopy of the discharge epicrisis (form 100) and the VLK certificate yourself, and either yourself or through relatives to transfer them to the clerk of your unit with the appropriate report.
