Magnetic storm calendar for August 2026: dangerous dates and how to protect yourself

Anyone looking for a calendar of magnetic storms in August wants to know a detailed forecast of geomagnetic activity for the month of 2026, this article is just for you, as it is compiled based on preliminary data from the Space Weather Prediction Center ( NOAA ).

As 2026 marks the peak of the 25th solar cycle, the Sun is expected to show increased activity in this hot, final month of summer. August will begin and end with noticeable fluctuations, so weather-sensitive people should be prepared to reduce physical activity and get regular sleep, which will greatly help to survive the storm.

Please note that this calendar is approximate, taking into account data from recent years on the behavior of the sun on these days. If you want to get more accurate information for a specific day, then it is better to check the information the day before on the profile website of the American Space Weather Prediction Center.

Date (August)Hazard level (K-index)The state of the magnetosphere and its possible impact on well-being
14 (Orange)Increased activity, residual mass emissions. Possible impact on weather-sensitive people.
23 (Yellow)Decline in intensity. Unstable background, possible mild fatigue in the afternoon, feeling of heaviness and headache.
32 (Green)The magnetosphere is calming down. A favorable day for physical activity, light jogging or cardio.
44 (Orange)Return of excited background due to solar wind. Risk of minor headaches and joint problems due to weather.
54 (Orange)Unstable field. It is recommended to avoid stress and overwork. Drink plenty of water.
64 (Orange)Electronic storm. Instability that can cause insomnia and rhythm disturbances.
73 (Yellow)Gradual decrease in vibrations. Feeling better, take the opportunity to take a walk.
82 (Green)The last echoes of activity. The background calms down completely towards evening. You can reserve a table for the evening.
93-4 (Yellow/Orange)The beginning of a period of weak activity. The first symptoms in weather-dependent people. Be prepared.
103-4 (Yellow/Orange)Mild tremors. Irritability and decreased concentration may occur. Drink more water and get plenty of sleep.
113 (Yellow)End of weak activity. At night, the field returns to normal.
121-2 (Green)A completely peaceful day. Perfect for recuperation, sports and outdoor activities.
135 (Red – G1)Beginning of a moderate storm. Sharp increase in activity, risk of pressure drops and dizziness.
145 (Red – G1)Moderate storm peak. Requires blood pressure monitoring and prescribed medication. Be cautious.
154 (Orange)Storm subsides. Excited background, possible residual weakness and apathy, avoid overloading the heart and blood vessels.
162 (Green)Return to stability. The body recovers from stress and is ready for battle.
171-2 (Green)Calm cosmic weather. A great time for work and solving all household chores.
181-2 (Green)Stable geomagnetic field. No threats to well-being and a good day for sports and training.
191-2 (Green)Calm magnetic background. Favorable for tasks with high concentration and brain activity.
201-2 (Green)Continuation of the favorable period.
211-2 (Green)A smooth background that guarantees sound sleep and good health.
221-2 (Green)Absence of geomagnetic threats.
231-2 (Green)A quiet day. It is recommended to accumulate strength before the end of the month. There will be the last rush of summer.
242-3 (Green/Yellow)The last calm day of the month. Changes in the solar wind begin at night.
253 (Yellow)Increased solar activity. Prepare for a serious storm. Possible joint and back pain.
263 (Yellow)Weak effect. Possible discomfort, heaviness in the head.
273 (Yellow)Residual phenomena of weak oscillations. Short respite and minor deviations.
282 (Green)Short-term lull. It is important to get enough sleep before the next attack.
296 (Red – G2)The beginning of a strong storm. Migraines, severe fatigue, exacerbation of diseases are possible.
306-7 (Red – G2/G3)Peak of the strongest storm of the month. Most dangerous day. Maximum calm.
315-6 (Red – G1/G2)The aftermath of a severe storm. The effects are still very noticeable, the body is exhausted.

Note to the table above (how to read it correctly): Days with an orange level (K-index 4) are transient – healthy people may not notice them, while weather-dependent people already feel discomfort. Days with a red level (K-index 5 and above) are highlighted in bold because they require special attention to the health of absolutely everyone.

How to protect yourself from magnetic storms

During peak solar cycles, like the hot August of 2026, geomagnetic storms become more intense. To minimize their impact on the body (especially during the periods of August 13-15 and 29-31 ), follow a few basic rules:

  • Adjust your diet. 1-2 days before the storm begins, avoid heavy, fatty, and overly salty foods that retain water and increase blood pressure. Replace coffee and energy drinks with herbal teas (mint, lemon balm, chamomile). You can also drink plain water with lemon and mint. A non-sweet cocktail with ice and passion fruit is also good.
  • Hydration is a priority. During geomagnetic fluctuations, blood tends to thicken, which makes it harder for the heart to work. Drink at least 1.5–2 liters of clean water per day.
  • Sleep mode. On days of increased solar activity, the production of melatonin (the sleep hormone) may be disrupted. Go to bed at the same time, ensuring complete darkness and coolness in the bedroom, then you will be able to sleep well and restore your strength on difficult days of magnetic storms (strong).
  • Help for blood vessels. A contrast shower in the morning will help keep blood vessels in good shape, but avoid it on the days of the strongest storms (August 30) if you have heart problems.
  • First aid kit at the ready. If you have a chronic cardiovascular disease, make sure your daily and emergency medications are available and always at hand on the shelf, by the bedside and in the kitchen. Do not change the dosage of medications without consulting your doctor.
