Pension supplement from August 1: which Ukrainians 65+ will receive a supplement this month

Due to the war and the crisis, the issue of the size of pension payments for millions of Ukrainian pensioners who receive meager pensions still remains one of the most important. At the end of the summer, the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) conducts planned recalculations and accrues additional payments for certain categories of pensioners.

The main changes with the increase and supplement to pensions apply to citizens over the age of 65, but not to all, but only to those who meet clear criteria regarding insurance experience, age restrictions and employment status. So, which of the Ukrainian pensioners aged 65+ will receive a supplement to their pension from August 1, read in our detailed review below.

Guaranteed minimum 65+: the decisive role of insurance experience

For Ukrainians who have reached the age of 65, the legislation provides for a social guaranteed threshold. If a person has accumulated the required number of years of service, their old-age pension payment cannot be lower than 40% of the minimum wage.

  • Insurance experience rate:
    • 30 years old – for women;
    • 35 years old – for men.
  • Key requirement: The 65+ Guarantee applies exclusively to non-working pensioners .

How it works: If the pension amount calculated by the formula for a non-working person aged 65+ with full service is lower than the guaranteed threshold, the PFU automatically sets a supplement to this level. If the pensioner continues to work or run an individual entrepreneur, this norm does not apply to him – the recalculation will take place only after official dismissal.

Age allowance: when and how much will be added

Age supplements are a monthly compensation payment that is assigned to pensioners automatically upon reaching the appropriate age.

Although the basic category of attention covers citizens from 65 years of age, the age allowances themselves begin to accrue upon reaching the age of 70. If a pensioner turns 70, 75 or 80 in August, he will receive the corresponding increase proportionally from his birthday.

Age categoryTotal amount of allowanceFinancial change upon transition
70 – 74 years oldup to 300 UAHInstalling for the first time
75 – 79 years oldup to 456 UAH+156 UAH to the previous payment
80+ yearsup to 570 UAH+114 UAH to the previous payment

Important restriction: Age compensation is paid only to those citizens whose total pension payment with all allowances and increases does not exceed UAH 10,340.35 .

Impact of indexation and employment status

For pensioners aged 65+ who continue to work, August may bring a change in the amount of benefits in two cases:

  1. Change of status (dismissal): If a pensioner over the age of 65 with full service leaves his job and notifies the PFU, his payment is immediately recalculated, taking into account the minimum guarantees for the unemployed.
  2. Individual recalculation of length of service: If a working pensioner has accumulated an additional 24 months of insurance service after the appointment or last recalculation of the pension, the PFU automatically recalculates the payment taking into account the new indicators.

Answer to the question: Should you expect a surcharge from August 1?

To understand whether the amount of your pension will change in August, check compliance with three criteria:

  • You are 65 years old , have 30 years (women) or 35 years (men) of insurance experience and are not officially employed .
  • You turn 70, 75 or 80 in August (the supplement will be accrued from the date of birth).
  • Your monthly pension is less than UAH 10,340.35 .

It is important to note that this is a planned recalculation that is carried out by the Pension Fund of Ukraine automatically based on data from the State Register of Insured Persons . That is, you do not need to contact the PFU service centers in person. The only exceptions are those pensioners who have recently resigned from work or have documents about the length of service that was not previously entered into the electronic pension file.
