As part of a large-scale transformation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense is introducing a new standard of financial support for military personnel. From now on, every defender, even while in the rear, will have a new level of financial support.
The key innovation is an additional bonus of 10,000 hryvnias , which is designed to set a “financial threshold” of at least 30,000 hryvnias per month. The Ministry of Defense has already issued clarifications on the rules for paying the additional bonus of 10,000 hryvnias, so that every serviceman understands the logic of accrual.
So in this article, we take a detailed look at who is entitled to the payment, how it is calculated, and what nuances exist during vacation or treatment.
Who can count on 10,000 hryvnias?
The main goal of the new payment, as part of the new summer army reform, is to support those servicemen who perform their duties outside areas of active combat operations and do not receive “combat” allowances. Their salary before the reform was usually about 26 thousand hryvnias.
Now a serviceman can receive an allowance of 10 thousand UAH if he meets these basic criteria:
- is in a support position (for example, driver, instructor, auto mechanic in a workshop).
- does not take direct part in hostilities.
- does not participate in the performance of tasks at control points.
- does not receive other additional rewards (30,000, 50,000 or 100,000 UAH).
Important: This payment does not depend on your salary or years of service – it is a separate fixed amount to ensure a minimum level of social security.
How does the “Guaranteed Minimum” formula work?
The logic of the Ministry of Defense is simple: the amount of basic cash support (BPS) together with the new reward must be at least 30,000 hryvnias .
An example to understand the difference: If the basic salary of a military person is 20,000 UAH, then if he serves a full month in his position and fulfills all assigned duties, he will receive +10,000 UAH in remuneration. Total – 30,000 UAH.
Please note that the payment is calculated in proportion to the time you performed the duties . If you performed the task for only half a month, the amount will be appropriate.
Money during treatment: what to expect?
According to the order of the Ministry of Defense No. 232 of June 29, 2026, the period of treatment is not a reason for terminating the payment of 10,000 hryvnias. That is, if a serviceman is being treated due to illness or general injury: the military unit continues to accrue the basic GZ + 10,000 UAH of additional remuneration.
If a serviceman was injured in the defense of the Motherland (Form 5): he is paid a much larger amount – UAH 100,000 per month, and the payment of UAH 10,000 will not be accrued during this period, as long as the amount exceeds the guaranteed minimum of UAH 30,000.
In the case when a serviceman has long-term treatment: After 4 months of continuous treatment, payments continue only by decision of the Military Medical Council and the relevant order of the commander, and if their amount exceeds 30 thousand UAH, an additional remuneration of 10 thousand from the unit will not be accrued.
Why may the payment not be accrued? (Important nuances)
There are several clear rules when the additional reward of 10,000 UAH is suspended or canceled:
- Leave: No pay is accrued while on any regular or additional leave . Only the basic GZ is retained by the serviceman.
- Involvement in combat missions: If a logistics specialist is involved in performing special or combat missions, he begins to be paid “combat” (30, 50 or 100 thousand UAH), and the payment of 10,000 UAH is automatically suspended for this period.
When to expect money?
The first payments under the new reform rules started in July 2026 (this is the accrual for June). The accruals for July 2026 will be transferred to the accounts of military personnel who meet the criteria in August .
That is, the payment is made monthly , in the month following the month in which it was accrued.
