So, since many remain faithful to the family traditions of celebrating Orthodox holidays in the old style, they are looking for an accurate church calendar for the entire month of August 2026. And we have prepared one for you and it is presented in this article below. Our calendar is based on the traditional Orthodox monthly calendar and describes in detail the memory of saints, revered icons and significant events for each day of this month.

August 1 (Saturday) opens the month with the commemoration of St. Seraphim of Sarov, one of the most famous and beloved Orthodox ascetics. The church also commemorates St. Macrina on this day.

August 2 (Sunday) is the 9th Sunday after Pentecost and a day of great celebration in honor of the prophet of God Elijah – a powerful Old Testament seer, who was distinguished by his ardent zeal for the purity of faith and, according to legend, was taken to heaven alive in a fiery chariot. In addition to him, on this day the Venerable Avramy of Galicia is prayerfully glorified.

August 5 (Wednesday) becomes a day of special joy and hope, as the feast of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God, one of the greatest shrines, as well as the icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” is celebrated. On the same day, the memory of the martyrs Trochim and Theophilus, who gave their lives for the confession of the Christian faith, is celebrated.

August 6 (Thursday) commemorates the holy princes Boris and Gleb , who consciously renounced fratricidal war, becoming the ideal of meekness and brotherly love. The clergy and laity also remember the martyr Christina and the Monk Polycarp, Archimandrite of the Caves.

August 7 (Friday) marks the Dormition of the righteous Anna, mother of the Most Holy Theotokos , who, together with her husband Joachim, is an example of a pious couple. In addition to Saint Anna, the memory of Saint Olympias the Deaconess and the Venerable Eupraxia is commemorated on this day.

August 8 (Saturday) is the day of prayerful remembrance of the holy martyrs Hermolaus, Hermippus, and Hermocrates of Nicomedia, who were not afraid of the threats of the pagans and accepted death for Christ. The faithful also pray to the Monk Moses Ugrin, the miracle worker of the Caves, and the Monk Martyr Paraskeva.

August 9 (Sunday) is the 10th Sunday after Pentecost and a day of great celebration in honor of the great martyr and healer Panteleimon, to whom people have long been addressed with fervent prayers for the healing of serious illnesses. At the same time, the church remembers the labors of the Reverend Herman of Alaska, an Orthodox missionary.

August 10 (Monday) Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, and Parmenas, who assisted the first twelve apostles in spreading the word of God.

August 11 (Tuesday) is dedicated to the memory of the holy martyrs who accepted suffering in early Christian times: the martyr Seraphim the Virgin, the martyr Theodotia and her three children, who showed incredible courage in the face of death. On this same day, people pray to the martyr Kallinikos.

August 12 (Wednesday) commemorates the memory of the martyr John the Warrior, who was a secret Christian in the Roman army and helped persecuted believers, for which he is still considered the intercessor of the unjustly wronged.

August 13 (Thursday) is the eve of the Assumption Fast: the last day when fasting food is allowed before the beginning of a two-week period of strict spiritual and physical abstinence.

August 14 (Friday) marks the beginning of the Assumption Fast and is celebrated as the feast of the Descent (Exposition) of the Holy Trees of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord, during which water and honey are traditionally blessed in churches. Also on this day, the seven Old Testament martyrs of the Maccabees, their mother Solomonia, and the teacher Eleazar are honored.

August 15 (Saturday) is dedicated to the memory of the protomartyr and archdeacon Stephen, who was the first to shed blood for Christ, as well as the righteous Nicodemus and Gamaliel, who were secret disciples of the Savior.

On August 17 (Monday), believers remember the amazing miracle of the seven youths of Ephesus (Maximilian, John and others), who were walled up in a cave for their confession of faith, but by the will of God fell asleep for several centuries and woke up to prove the truth of the general resurrection. On this day, the martyr Eleutherius and the venerable martyr Eudokia are also venerated.

August 18 (Tuesday) is filled with prayerful remembrances of the martyr Eusignius, who served in the Roman army and suffered for Christ in old age. Also commemorated on this day are the holy martyr Simon of Ufa, the righteous Nonna (the pious mother of St. Gregory the Theologian), and the Venerable Job of Ushchelsky.

August 19 (Wednesday) is one of the twelve greatest holidays of the Orthodox calendar: THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD GOD AND OUR SAVIOR JESUS ​​CHRIST. This day commemorates the evangelical event when Christ showed His disciples the Divine glory on Mount Tabor, and in churches the consecration of grapes, apples, and other fruits of the new harvest is traditionally performed.

On August 20 (Thursday), the church glorifies two Pechersk ascetics: Saint Pimen the Many-Sick, who endured illnesses with gratitude to God throughout his life, and Pimen the Faster.

August 21 (Friday) is the day of memory of Saint Emilian the Confessor, who steadfastly defended Orthodoxy during the iconoclastic persecutions. On the same day, the memory of the great lights of the north is honored – Saints Zosimas, Savvaty and German, who are the founders of the glorious Solovetsky Monastery.

August 22 (Saturday) is dedicated to the Apostle Matthias, who was chosen by lot and added to the number of the twelve apostles in place of the fallen Judas Iscariot. The church charter also prescribes that on this day the martyr Anthony of Alexandria and the saints Philaret and Lawrence of Chernigov be honored.

August 23 (Sunday) , which is the 12th Sunday after Pentecost, glorifies the martyr and archdeacon Lawrence, who distributed church treasures to the poor, for which he accepted a martyr’s death on a red-hot grill. Together with him, the faithful pray to Blessed Lawrence of Kaluga and Saint Sava.

August 24 (Monday) commemorates the exploits of the Venerable Theodore, Prince of Ostrog, who, having been an influential military leader and defender of Orthodoxy, left worldly glory and took monastic tonsure in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. On the same day, the Venerable John, the hermit of Sviatohirsk, is honored.

On August 25 (Tuesday) , the memory of the martyrs Photius and Anicita is celebrated, who openly spoke out against the cruelty of the emperor Diocletian. In addition to them, the church glorifies the holy martyr Alexander of Koman, as well as the martyrs Pamphilus and Capito.

August 26 (Wednesday) is the day of the Transfiguration of the Lord, when the divine service once again reminds of the greatness of the Tabor miracle. On this day, they honor Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk, Saint Maxim the Confessor, and pray before the icons of the Mother of God “Seven-shot” (Softening of Evil Hearts) and “Passionate.”

August 27 (Thursday) is dedicated to one of the most revered Ukrainian saints, Venerable Theodosius, Abbot of the Caves, who, together with Anthony, laid the foundations of monasticism in Russia. The Old Testament prophet Micah and Venerable Arkady are also commemorated on this day.

August 28 (Friday) crowns the period of Lent with the great twelfth feast – the ASSUMPTION OF THE MOST HOLY LADY OUR MOTHER OF THE THEOLOGIAN AND THE EVER-VIRGIN MARY. This day, often called the “summer Easter”, symbolizes the transition of the Mother of God to eternal life and concludes the strict Assumption Fast.

August 29 (Saturday) brings the joyful feast of the Transfer of the Not-Made-by-Hands Image of the Savior from Edessa to Constantinople (popularly known as the Walnut or Linen Savior). In addition, the church commemorates the martyr Diomedes the Physician and venerates the Theodoric Icon of the Mother of God.

August 30 (Sunday) is the 13th Sunday after Pentecost, on which the martyr Myron the Presbyter is prayerfully glorified. Also on this day, believers remember the spiritual labors of the Venerable Pimen of Ugres and Alypius of the Caves, a famous monk-iconographer who was distinguished by extraordinary talent and righteousness.

August 31 (Monday) concludes the month with the commemoration of the martyrs Flora and Laurus, who in folk tradition are considered the patrons of domestic animals, including horses. Also, on the last day of August, the memory of St. John of Rila is celebrated and the miraculous icon of the Mother of God “All-Tsaritsa”, known for its help to people with cancer, is glorified.
